TCC have just posted online an update of the Marine Park project which has been reviewed in private by staff for the last month out of site of the public and elected members until earlier this week. This was due to be publicly debated in June by councillors but was taken back out of the public domain by TCC staff so nobody (not even our elected members could have a say) They now say "We have agreed that the concept aligns with the objectives for the new facility and that the relevant conditions of the agreement to lease have been met" This is after they missed their contractural deadline to have this all approved in front of council before July 4th which is one year after their conditional lease was signed with UOW on 4/7/24 . TCC Staff decided to extend this condition without even informing councillors and have not provided any evidence an extension was agreed before this date. Its all top secret. No transparency no debate. You can see the pipes they intend to lay out into the harbour for both intake and outtake of seawater and a rather childlike graphic of the new centre. Conceptual indeed. Finally the area marked in red is now the only public open green park space left after University of Waikato has removed the land that was gifted to the people of this city with the help of TCC staff. A modern day land grab right in front of our noses. It's time to make some noise people and let TCC know this is not on.Â
