Mount Maunganui parking:
During the recent consultation regarding parking issues at the Mount, I raised the question that if paid parking did eventuate (not that we support such a move) where would the funds raised be spent, and was informed back into the Mount. I have to now question the validity of this given Glen Crowthers statement in today's BOP Times: "Council needed to raise $46m from parking for the Civic precedent" My thanks to Glen for once again being honest. So as with the sale of park land to Zespri for their offices that should be in the CBD and for which the funds raised were wasted on stone steps into the Harbour in the CBD is the Mount being subjected to much of the same again?
Where then do we find the truth in regard to parking issues at the Mount or is this, yet another means to plunder the Mount for developments in the CBD?

Parking is the number one concern I hear from businesses in Tauranga.
Tauranga City Council has recently announced changes to parking in our city.
From Monday, 4 August, paid on-street parking is being extended to some streets in the city fringe - $1 per hour for the first 2 hours with a max daily charge of $10. Other streets will see the introduction of P120 time restrictions.
What are your thoughts? Will this help or hinder Tauranga CBD?
PARKING!
Tauranga residents are already burdened with the huge increase in monitored parking and escalating costs imposed by the parking “gestapo” at TCC. Driving a council car is a privilege — but parking it in a disabled space is simply arrogant, showing utter disregard for the people who pay the bills. It’s a slap in the face to ratepayers. I wonder if the staff member who parked on Dixon Road outside a Papamoa school was ticketed, or if, as usual, it’s one rule for them and another for us.
